Paralysis

[10]

Hello my name is Brian Cross and I wanted to tell you the story about how my life went from tragedy to triumph in a split second. Let me start by telling you a little bit about my life prior to the day that my neck was broken on June 29,1994. I was a heavy drinker, constantly drinking and driving while also going to rock 'n roll shows. I also was getting tattooed on a regular basis from anywhere between once or twice a week. I also was traveling all across the United States to tattoo conventions. I also in May of 1994 went to Frankfurt,Germany for a tattoo convention for four days and then went up to Holland for 10 days. I surprisingly enough still can remember everything I did after all the alcohol and marijuana I consumed during the trip. I always told myself that I would never get tattooed anywhere that a long sleeve shirt could not cover, because I did not want to be judged by anyone when I went into somewhere such as a business, church or other social event. Then I met this tattoo artist from California while at the tattoo convention in Frankfurt,Germany and of course I got the tattoo that I wanted on the back of my neck. Of course, as karma would have it as I said I would never get tattooed above my shirt collar I got a tattoo on my neck and what happened, the following month while I was at a rock concert I had my neck broken. So, there went the perfect tattoo I had on the back of my neck, because the surgeon had to cut my neck to fuse the bones in my neck to make them more stable so I didn't have that perfect tattoo that I wanted in Germany anymore. While I was at the rock concert I was slamdancing and jumping all around then ended on top of the crowd, they pushed me forward and then four security guards pulled me off the crowd by my shirt causing me to fall on the ground. Then they proceeded to push me out the doors and pushed me down onto the ground then asked me,"If I had a problem".  I of course said,"No". Then they said,"Well you do now",then they proceeded to take me by my arms, put them behind my back, then picked me up in the air and slammed me head first on the ground which caused my neck to break in two places. They then continued to rough me up,then picked me up by my arms and legs, then carried me what would have seemed like the length of a football field with my head bouncing all around causing permanent damage to my spinal cord rendering me paralyzed from the neck down. Then they dropped me face down in a mud puddle outside the gates. Then they said,"Now get up and walk",then they proceeded to walk back into the venue leaving me by self lying there next to death. Then Anthony,my tattoo artists brother in law, crouched down just inside the gates, because the guards told him if he went outside the gates he would not be able to go back into the concert. Then Anthony asked me,"Are you okay"?  I replied,"No,they broke my neck, they broke my neck, please get  me help". Then the next thing I knew the paramedics surrounded me,proceeded to put me on a backboard, stabilized my neck and put me in the ambulance. I kept saying,"Call my mom, call my mom",then gave them my phone number. Then the next thing I knew I woke up in shock trauma.
