Last night, I was sexually harassed again while on the way home. :( I was just crossing the street when a guy grabbed my left breast. It was so scary. I wasn't able to see his face because since I was crossing the street, my eyes were on the road and the vehicles.
I can't count how many times I experience sexual harassment in a year. Some people say maybe I should think what's "wrong" with me, why I am a target of perverts. It's sad that when victims like me share their stories, people always assume that it's us not being alert or careful. I know some are just concerned but sometimes it really hurts to hear words like that. No one deserves to be harassed and by experience you can't really predict when it will happen and it's also hard to stop it as a victim because it's scary. :( Police won't believe you unless you have concrete evidence. As a girl only 4'9" tall, I don't stand a chance fighting guys who are a lot stronger and bigger than me. :( Incidents like the one that happened to me last night occurs so fast, there's no time to grab a pepper spray or hit the guy. I wasn't even able to shout at him. Some people say I should avoid walking home alone but there's no one who can always accompany me. My boyfriend lives in another city and I definitely can't afford to have a bodyguard. It's so scary and frustrating.

I'm so sorry you had this experience. It does sound scary. The police should believe you, though. When I was in my 20's, things like this would happen. They have to take a report and if they're good police, they will at the very least keep the report in mind in case there is another attack on someone else and the accumulative effect might be a stronger police presence in an area. I think the last time something like that happened to me the police were pretty honest that not much would come of it (as far as finding the men who had chased and threatened me), but they said that the area was in had received other complaints and they would increase their drive throughs of the area. But you will know what is best to do and every city is different. I just want you to know that we know you have a right not to be harassed and we take these things seriously.
Oh, and on another note: Again, when I was younger, someone had bought me both pepper spray and a small knife for defense. I absolutely refused to use either because, like you, I know my limitations. As a small woman who does not have combat training, these things would likely just be used against me. I'm not anti-pepper spray, but would encourage women to take self defense classes to practice using it perhaps.

Thank you so much for your support. Some people think it's easy to fight harassers but the truth is, it isn't. A lot of people told me, "Oh you should have hit him" , as if that is so easy to do. How can I fight guys who are almost twice my size? They can knock me down with just one hand. :(
