I'm hoping not to sound like the same old story but after being with a husband over 30 yrs, I had hoped he could've learned my love language and I- his.
Everything he needs - I don't do well (except acting as a mother figure, cheerleader, assistant, etc...).
Everything I need: he doesn't do well like saying my name, seriously validating me, acting like I'm his precious best friend...ie: making me feel loved.
I'm ADHD, very codependent & not in the time of life that I can just leave financially or mentally.
We raised kids thru adulthood- all the while the family having to endure his vocal ragefests creating stress and panic attacks.

@kgmaxwell oh man I don't know what to say except I'm actually crying from your beautiful words of encouragement.. thank you!
I think I have been in the deep end so long I barely recognized a helping hand coming thru the water - wow.
It's funny you made note of my thoughts here - I always dreamed of being an author (mbe even just kid's stories to start) & my father weirdly once said he gave me an author's name...but I was drawn to the musings of a young painter - artist ( how could I be both?). Of course ended up utterly delayed in ANY arts as major life crisis rocked my progress several times over.
Thanks to you - the waters are not quite so rough today. Here's hoping you are experiencing the joy you seek ( you already pocess that rare thing called compassion!).

@Littlesis Thanks for sharing. If painting or writing is still your bliss, you should pursue it. It could be taking a course at a local college or an online course. It might also be connecting directly with painters or writers in person or online. Or you can just start writing or painting. There is also a website called www.volunteermatch.com that has many opportunities to volunteer if you would like to investigate further.

One of the things we forget as we get older is that we have gained a great deal of wisdom from our life experiences. Young people would welcome guidance from seniors once they knew it was available and it related to their needs.

I encourage you to pursue your talent(s). The beauty of writing or painting is that they can be taken up at any age. There are many out there that would welcome your talent Littlesis. Start from the present moment only leaving the past behind. It is there always but it should never dictate what you do now.

Thanks for sharing again and reminding me there are many ways to embrace our gifts - keeping our dreams and talents within arm's reach.
I'm definitely going to look up the sites - great idea :)
