Hello everyone, I am new here. I am devastated that my husband of 18 years wants a separation and likely divorce. While we have had problems, I always thought it would work out. I am very scared and distraught over breaking this news to our 12yo son. I can’t eat or sleep, am barely functioning and don’t know how to face getting up and going to work. Can anyone help with any advice to calm my anxious frantic thoughts right now?

@Dump he will not go to counseling. Feels like he has read all the books and no one could tell him anything. He knows I love him and says he will always love me but that our relationship doesn’t work any longer.

@Cssm92 unfortunately I struggle in believing in god- that is a whole other topic. So I cannot rely on faith and it would feel false to do so. I do thank you for all the advice about self care and keeping busy that you provided however. I am just so scared- for my son, about being alone, failing in my marriage, letting my partner down. I never thought I would be in this situation- but who does I suppose. I usually have it “all together” and am in control. I feel like a failure and that I didn’t try hard enough by being passive/aggressive on so many subjects.

@zen-man and I am sorry to hear about the struggles with your son. It is so hard to see our children unhappy. I hope things have gotten better over time for you and him.
