My grown daughter moved from her father's house, (my ex's) to an apartment with her fiance. So she left her dog with her dad temporarily. More recently she lined up a nice townhouse rental, with a yard, that allowed dogs, so she could have her dog with her. They're supposed to move the end of this month. But last week, her dog got out of her father's yard when he was inside the house, after he fed one of the dogs, but forgot to feed the other two dogs for a brief time. So my ex told my other daughter, please feed the other two dogs. But when she went to get the dogs, Molly, the beagle, had gotten out of the yard. It was dark out, just after sunset, so they were combing the neighborhood looking for Molly. But my ex lives just in front of a wash area where wildlife roams, including coyotes. So they found Molly behind the house in the wash. She was still warm but had been attacked to death by coyotes. I know my daughter blames herself for moving without Molly. My other daughter and her father both blame themselves for how Molly got out of the yard and they were a bit late feeding her. But Molly was an adventurer, an escape artist. She dug out of the yard all the time, and once even got into a neighbor's doggie door, and ate the neighbor's dog's food. She was just a wanderer and liked to hunt morsels. There would be no stopping her. I think my ex should have shored up the fence better. But what is done is done, and no blaming will ever bring Molly back. So they buried her in a serene spot in the yard. : (
