Hi everyone, honestly I’m not sure how much to share or even what to say. I’ve been through over a decade of abuse and am struggling to find who I am now that I have escaped the situation. Flashbacks and bad habits are not helping the situation. I hate asking for help because I don’t want to burden anyone but I’m not sure what else to do.

You're doing what's right for yourself, and what you need to keep moving forward. There's no shame in asking for help, and you're certainly not being a burden to anyone. This site is just what you need.

When I started having flashbacks of my abuse, it was difficult for me to keep pushing forward. I felt really lost, and as time went on, my mental state started to deteriorate. I still can't say that I've came out, and told the people I need to about my abuse, or gotten a therapist, but after talking more to my peers, and on this site, I've felt more comfortable about it than I ever have. I've started understanding myself more.

My first step, was honestly just talking about it, to whoever would listen. I went to websites, I went to hotlines, I went to my friends, talking about my feelings, my habits, and even my memories of the abuse. Of course, you should do what makes you feel comfortable, or helps you out the most.

Possibly the best thing I've done for myself, is talked to an online therapist over the RAINN website. She listened to me, talked me through it, gave me advice, and made me feel 10x better than I ever have. I highly recommend it.

Hang in there. If you'd like to talk, don't be afraid to message me. I'm here for you.

@Tobyy_ish thank you. I really appreciate it. It always helps to know I’m not the only one going through this.
