Hi all! Ok so I've been battling insomnia since I was about 20 years old, I'm now 52.

I've tried everything from Melatonin to Ambian. I've cut out the caffeine, quit smoking, tried exercising, tried not eating after a certain time, etc.

My average sleep cycle lasts for 2.5 hours and then I wake up. Sometimes I can get up for about 15 minutes then fall back asleep for another 2 hours but a lot of times I can't. When I come home from work, I'm often tired and if I lie down I can usually nap for 2-3 hours but if I do this in the afternoon, I won't sleep that night.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Oh and I hate the taste of coffee so that's not an option for me. :-)

I am listening to "IT" currently... I have never really read much of Steven King's stuff before this... (like how i pretend listening is reading) lol . But anyway yeah... awesome! I have about an hour commute to and from work so eats a lot of time... I do a lot of listening... LOVE IT. though i find the books like "IT" dont work as well for sleep when you are trying to stay awake to hear what is going to happen next! I might suggest "Adventures In Tax Accounting... The long slow road to flush and Beyond! " LOL Ok, i made that up.. but you git the just of what i am saying...

When I was a child I would sneak my Dad's transistor radio into my bedroom, put it under my pillow, and fall asleep listening to Mystery Theatre on the radio! Lol

LOL, I used to use the sound machine apps that make rain or white noise, but find that I almost instantly find the loop or hear weird beep or background noise in almost all of them... which makes it harder for me to sleep... because i hear it and it irritates me. I found Lightning Bug Sleep Clock is my favorite as you can add or remove different sounds to each soundscape... though none of which compare to having someone read you a bedtime story. Just preview the narrators because some are good and some are kind of annoying... there were a few i was really excited to start then once they started reading the voice was so bland or pitchy and let me down... ya get past it but it is nice to have a good voice from the start. Also is some awesome actors that do some of the reading... I am looking forward to finding some read by James Franco. He narrates quite a few... Just searched on audible... he narrates Steven King's The Dead Zone and also Slaughter House-Five. that the dead zone is my next i think ....
