I have a question. I recently took a job working with a Ryan White organization. I have only been here 3 weeks now. However it is some what complicated to get your patients to tell you things that are day to day bothering them. be it with their meds, or how I as someone without HIV doesn't understand the struggle.

I am simply just trying to understand my patients better. So if I were your nurse, what is it that you would want me to know?

Treat your patience with dignity.. take time to listen to them and let offload whatever is on their chest: RESPECT THEM and know they are not your JOB: you applied for that position: because may be you wNt to help people. The people coming to your clinic. Need help. Most important IMMOTIONAL SUPPORT

Ok. It's already clear why your client is there to see you. Treat me like I came to you for a regular check up. Ask me about something personal that can maybe get a smile or a chuckle out of me. Break the ice. Once, I become comfortable (I understand time is limited) and begin to share.. be ever so sensitive and attentive. In that short amount of time, trust is established.
