I’m so confused right now. I started taking 500mg Valtrex

I’m so confused right now. I started taking 500mg Valtrex everyday about 2 weeks ago because I have a trip coming up this weekend and I wanted to make sure I didn’t have any flare ups. In the year and a half that I’ve had hsv I’ve only had 3 outbreaks. But I just wanted to be proactive. So Yesterday I see what looks like the start of an outbreak. It’s still sitting under the skin. It doesn’t itch hurt or tingle but I know my body and that’s usually how it starts. How did this still happen? I immediately bumped up my dosage to the 1mg pills hoping that will stop it and I plan to just keep taking those. This morning I checked and it’s still there buts it’s getting smaller. But has anyone ever experienced that? How does that still happen with the medicine in your system?

@HoldingOnToHope07

1) stress, possible triggering foods consumed, excessive sun, low body immune, etc.
see: http://www.herpesite.org/herpes-outbreaks-recurrence-prodrome-triggers/
2) very possible you are mis-diagnosing yourself. you said, it doesn't itch, hurt, tingle which are the normal signs (same as me), so possibly it's an ingrown hair or some other irritation/contact dermatitis.

Thanks for responding. I thought it might be something else too but It’s in the same spot where I get my my outbreaks so I think that’s what it is. Sorry if too much info but my menstruation is supposed to come in a week so maybe the hormones are triggering it? Thought the meds would be strong enough to combat that but maybe I haven’t been taking them long enough ? So many different factors. Just going to keep taking the 1mg twice a day and hopefully that clears it up soon! Outside of 1mg any other things that can help to speed up the process? Thanks!

sounds like you have it figured. the best thing is to help your own body help itself by resting and maybe vitamins. here is a post from a former sidekick of mine: https://www.supportgroups.com/herpes/besides-antivirals-there-are-other-...
