Hi, I'm 23 years old and got diagnosed with HSV-1 about 9 months ago (I get sores on my genitals). I had recently broken up with my ex of 4 years when I found out and was having sex with another hook up at that time. Neither of them had it so I think I must've got it when I was 18 and me and my ex had unprotected sex a lot. I had unprotected sex with a few others after this because I thought this meant that I didn't have to worry about it. I did end up telling the two guys I was have unprotected sex with after the fact and one of them tested positive for HSV-1. Now I'm talking to someone new and I don't know how to go about telling them this.. I'm scared. Does anyone have any advice for me? I've never told anyone besides the people who I've had unprotected sex with and I've tried talking to them about this but they just end up making me feel worse. I'm hoping someone here can help.

@Mm123456 oh okay I see. You can still continue having a friends with benefit but I strongly agree you disclose you have herpes before having sex because if you pass it onto them it can turn into a huge mess and I wouldn’t want that to happen to you or anyone else

@doglover28 Yeah I just feel like I'll get rejected so I feel like I kinda have to be in a relationship...

@Mm123456 Yes there might be a higher chance of rejection in a friends with benefits situation but you can't assume they will always say no. If you sit them down and tell them facts and google things to show them the information, they might be okay with it. My preference is to date rather than have a friends with benefits but that me. You do whatever you think is right and whichever will make you happy
