My husband is having an affair. It has been 6 months. I’m going to file for divorce. We have two kids 16 and 11. I don’t want to lose our home. Any suggestions or experience to share? Anything will help!

So sorry you're going through this. : ( Do you have a lawyer? Do you have the kind of emotional support you need, a counselor, pastor, church, support group, etc? Divorce Care is a good group, and they have a mailing list where you can get emails that are uplifting. Please try to make sure you get what's coming to you regarding your shared assets, child support, etc, for the sake of the children. It's obvious who's putting the kids first. It ain't him.

It's very possible the court will make the two of you sell the house unless one of you can buy the other out of their share. You do this through a new loan. If you have the money to make payments on your own and know you can qualify for the type of loan, your lawyer can help you request it with the court. A law library near your home will have the details about how much he'll have to pay you for child support. If you can't afford a lawyer there's all kinds of community resources online making legal aid more accessible.

I found out my house is already worth about 30,000 more than we paid for it. If the court makes us sell in our divorce, it should give us a nice start someplace else with that kinda money, even if I had to rent. Make the cheater pay and don't take any less than what's coming to you. You deserve better.
