Has anyone suffered from depression from a very young age or ever since they remember? Please just say you're there.

Wow! Seems like a lot of misdirected animosity flowing on this thread. I am saddened to read the insults. My experience with depression has been more chemical from the standpoint that I suffer from Bipolar and get to experience both extremes., depression and mania. It's always been hard to pull myself up out of depression, yet sometimes that actually helps. There are people who are chronically depressed and nothing seems to help. Not even chemicals. We are all the same in many ways, but we are also unique. One size doesn't fit all. One cure doesn't work on everyone. I believe it is an individual journey that we all struggle to make. If standing on your head in a canoe in the middle of a lake elevates your mood, I suggest you buy a canoe. But don't expect me to buy one, because, I'm afraid of water and I can't swim. I'm sorry but I don't see the point in arguing on this thread. We are all different and experience depression for different reasons, surely you all realize that.

@momma22 I'm sorry for what you've been through, although sounds like you've got a good direction now. :) Are you seeing a therapist? What do you mean by toxic behavior/comments? In any case, acknowleging them is already a great step to me. I have had a lot of toxic people in my life, and none of them would ever admit a single thing they did wrong, so I really just admire that ability. It might be just a step, but without it there's no getting anywhere. I probably talk to much. I'm just rooting for you. Also I don't think you should burden yourself too much with "presenting" as upbeat if it takes so much out of you. It's just important to let people know you care about them and support them, but you don't have to a happy dance all the time. It's being genuine that counts.
