Anyone read "The Awakening" by Kate Chopin? I have to write a short essay/analysis of the ending where the main character drowns herself. Last time I tried to start, I had a panic attack because my options are that she did it because she failed to fit into society or it was (good) her true final awakening. I can't write about suicide casually. It's fiction, a story, symbolism, I know- but whenever I think about it, my stomach hurts. Any tips?

I completely understand developing an emotional connection with characters in a story. It really makes the book more enjoyable but the way I split them up is to look at them as actors or players in a game. Actors don't really die in the movie, characters respawn, etc. This allows you to look at the situation more clinically and prevents the damage to your connection to the characters at least for me.

@Glass_singer I think that's what I'll try to do.
