I live alone and have no family in the area, almost no family at all anywhere. I normally do just fine. I connect with people when possible, call friends, use the internet to connect. But something about being alone and sick is extremely hard this time. I would give almost anything during my recent health crap to have someone here with me. It has been making me feel very lonely.

Jan 29Like you, I live alone, have no family nearby, and almost no family left at all. I try to connect with friends and neighbors. Do you have a pet that responds to you? I had a cat I lost at the age of 14 a couple weeks ago. He was friendly and outgoing, so that helped with my loneliness. I'm not sure if I'll get another cat; it's too soon to think about that, but meanwhile I keep going. Not being well and living alone sounds like a real struggle. Keep calling friends, connecting online too. My health insurance offers a free 24/7 nurse hotline that I've called 3 times. If you have health insurance, they might offer a hotline. Another suggestion that sounds extreme is to call the suicide prevention line, not because you're thinking about suicide, but because the counselor can offer suggestions and resources in your area to help you deal with loneliness.

Jan 30@Cgreader I'm so sorry to hear about your cat! I had a cat for 19yrs, he passed over in the spring. It was so hard. He definitely was what I called "my soul mate kitty". What you wrote definitely resonates with me. Yes, thank God for really nice neighbors. I was able to take a new med and go take a nap next door today, knowing if the med didn't react well, there would be someone there! So much stress relief in knowing that. Thanks for the ideas

Feb 28I completely empathize. While I have loads of family, they all live elsewhere and have lives and I have just one person who is a friend (was a romantic interest until one health issue worsened), and so I totally get that. So sorry! I hope you are able to find some friends who are there for you during those difficult moments in life!
