@LookingUp1 Oh yes...mine hasn't been quite than severe, but I have big chunks of time/major events that permanently disappeared from my long term memory. They told me before the procedure that I would have some temporary SHORT TERM memory loss, but nothing significant or permanent. I was scheduled to have 3-4 sessions depending on my level of response, but they had to discontinue after the 2nd one because memory loss was so severe (they did these memory check tests after each procedure.) It was bad...even after the 1st session for the first 24 hours I couldn't remember my roommates name, where I was born, or my own middle name! The doctor said I had an unusually strong response to the stimulus, which apparently was partially due to being so young at the time (I guess the younger the patient, the stronger and longer the seizure activity is.) Of course the doctor said the memory loss must be due to something else because "ECT does not cause long term memory loss..."

Unfortunately I was forced to do ECT since I was a minor (only 16 at the time) I had no say if I wanted it or not. I had 16 ECT treatments before they stopped even though it was affecting my memory after the first treatment. The doctor told me that I would ONLY have short-term memory loss. What a joke!!
