Bible Thought for CAREGIVERS
by my good friend Chris
Psalms 3 : 2 - 5 ( CJB ) " How countless those who say of me,
“There is no salvation for him in God. "But you, Adonai, are a shield for me;you are my glory, you lift my head high. With my voice I call out to Adonai,
and he answers me from his holy hill. I lie down and sleep, then wake up again, because Adonai sustains me. "
It sounds so simple. To lie down and sleep, then wake up again. But, of course, it's not that simple. When do we get to lie down for sleep ? Sometimes it seems like never. And when do we wake up ? 20 minutes later. Maybe an hour later.
How did it get like this ? When that disease took over. We get to sleep only after our loved one does. And then, maybe only after the the bathroom, or the kitchen has been cleaned up. Or the forms that came in the mail have been read. Or something. Too many things.
Even when I pray, I remember the things ( or people ) that are bothering me, but I forget to ask for what I really need. Of course, God knows exactly what I need, but you know Him. Like any loving father, He likes for us to acknowledge the real needs. Not so much the things we think we need.
So when I read this verse, there it was. My answer. What I really needed was to remember who it is that keeps me going. Not my strength. Not my knowledge. His.
I can lie down to sleep, and wake up again rested.
Because Adonai sustains me.
Peace and rest be yours,
