Living a life worthy of celebrating

This past week, George Bush Sr., our 41st President of the United States passed away. Glossing over his entire life of service to his country, because, let’s be honest, your views on his life are yours to have, what we want to focus on is the family man he always was and the kindly man in the wheelchair, he became. The man who in his later years had a wonderful relationship with his Democrat antecessors, President Clinton and President Obama, the man who wore funny socks and who clearly adored his wife of many, many decades, Barbara Bush.

Needing, wanting, having to slow down

I feel that from the minute Halloween is over, this time of year starts to feel like it is on too much caffeine and is a little heavy on the gas pedal. The decorations seem to go up a little earlier every year, the Christmas music is always too much and too early in my opinion and the advertising for every new toy arrives in my mailbox on the daily, to be eagerly viewed and circled by my kids, and it isn’t even December. Is anyone else tired?

Thanksgiving, a day that promises food, family, and soap opera like antics

While I adore the whole holiday and family gathering, I have never understood the sheer need for so much food that it takes a few days to actually make the meal, that we eat in the regular one hour or less time period. I do love that we come together, because let’s face it, we are a fast paced world that is always rushing about, so it is lovely to sit and find the best recipes and set the most pinterest worthy tablescape, but if it isn’t perfect, knowing no one will care.

In Praise of being lazy

So much of what we define as lazy is actually self care. We are so intent on being the best and the most amazing all the time, it gets exhausting. We are humans and need downtime, I am all for mandatory napping and time scheduled for reading and the occasional massage. I think boring is actually ideal, where time sitting on a front porch watching the sunset is actually but above rushing about, getting one more text or email sent out.

Countdown towards thankfulness

Hello November! Hello Fall, Hello Pumpkin Spice everything, Hello chunky sweaters and soup and all things warm and toasty. Does it just seem like in adulthood that time goes extra fast? I feel like Summer just ended and now we just finished Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos and now I just put a deposit on a turkey. Dear Lord Almighty, 2018 is coming to a close at the speed of light and I am just not ready! I want a little more time, don’t you?
