Where we are at.

We are writing this week while eating our lunch of yogurt, fruit and granola (which the fancy may call parfait) which we assure you is not fancy at all, because we are eating it out of the yogurt container. The big, family share one, because this is where we are at and honestly we do not want to wash another dish and this one will need washing anyway, because we will most likely reuse it. We have turned into a reuse, recycle queen. A victory garden sounds amazing, except our thumb is not exactly green, but we did plant some tomato plants a neighbor gave us and some aloe, so that counts, RIGHT?!!!

“The most powerful magic of all is choice.”-Sara Raasch

Schooling around here is subpar at best. The attitude is, get it done so we can do more important things, like playing outside, baking, riding bikes, basically anything that doesn’t involve writing prompts. Making new Google Docs that you can type on is our new super power, as the teachers love to send PDFs and uneditable docs and other parents can’t even get a hang of not hitting reply all, so the bar for technology aptitude is low. But we are hanging in there! We are thriving in a new way, a way that frankly we never thought about before now. We don’t have a calendar to fill or a schedule to make. Meals are simple affairs, more grilling, less time spent on planning.

“I hope you find true meaning, contentment, and passion in your life. I hope you navigate the difficult times and come out with greater strength and resolve. I hope you find whatever balance you seek with your eyes wide open.”
-Sheryl Sandberg

So while COVID-19 has changed our life completely, we are feeling like overall there are some bright spots. But you better believe back to school night will feel like winning big on a game show..., behind this curtain is a beautiful classroom, books, posters, and a TEACHER! Not only that, but this Teacher is here to teach your child all they need to know!!! We get tears in our eyes even picturing it.

“Remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious. And however difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don't just give up.” -Stephen Hawking

But there are definite downsides, the fear, anxiety and stress regarding this disease is unlike anything we have experienced before. Going grocery shopping feels like you are entering a whole new and weird world where you can’t see people’s smiles or emotions behind their masks. No smiles, do go past other humans quickly and make sure there is the maximum amount of room possible in an aisle. Employees wipe down card readers and handles with antibacterial spray after anything is touched. Reusable bags are looked down upon and plastic bags are “good.”

“I know. I’m angry because I understand, not because I don’t.” -Sarah Kane

Life is more than a bit topsy turvy, but it is ours and everyday we are breathing is a fantastic day. It might not always feel that way, you might be feeling like life isn’t worth living, or you are not worthy enough to live, or you are too big, or fat, your hips aren’t big enough or small enough, you are too short or too tall, your jeans don’t zip anymore, you are not eating healthy enough, OR, OR, OR…!!!! The negativity and despair need to be destroyed and buried, again and again if necessary. You are amazing, wonderful and powerful, end of story.

“She remembered who she was and the game changed.” -Lalah Delia

Don’t allow anyone or the lies you tell to yourself, steal your joy. There is too much death and sadness right now. Add your light and love to the planet, we are in this together. With all the love in our heart. -Team SG

“Everyone of us needs to show how much we care for each other and, in the process, care for ourselves.”
- Princess Diana

Ugh, I miss school, I miss teachers, I miss not having to make my kids learn against their will!
