If you're happy...

Do you ever find yourself thinking, once I do this, or accomplish that, marry, have a child, once my kid goes into preschool, when I get this job...then I will be happy. We rarely think, here is where I am, can I find happiness here? We are told by influencers, magazines, reality television and print ads that in order to be happy we need to make a certain amount of money, be tall, thin, not have cellulite, have a perfectly coiffed head of hair, to not have any body hair visible and to wear the latest fashion. But what if we muted all the outside influences and really sat down and asked ourselves, am I happy and if not, how can I change that?

The most important thing is to enjoy your life - to be happy. It's all that matters.
-Audrey Hepburn

Living through a pandemic has taught us not to take even one breath on this earth for granted. But let’s be honest, it hasn’t turned us into saints, we haven’t figured out how to be filled with loving kindness and gratefulness 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are human and as such, we forget how lucky we are because it is so ingrained in our minds to always want something more. We don’t take time to smell the roses because we have so many other things to do, like read the latest book on Oprah’s book club list, try the latest diet trend, plan a Zoom hangout with friends, make sure we fit in some exercise, work, parent, try to figure out ways to make our significant other feel special, fit in therapy, schedule appointments, go to appointments, our lists go on and on. We are busy, we have a full schedule, but we are rarely satisfied and happiness seems so far out of reach.

The only thing that will make you happy is being happy with who you are.
-Goldie Hawn

If we really started to think about our lives, the people who love us, the places we have visited, the books and shows we have watched, the people who have had a positive impact on our life, the result might be open mouthed shock at the wonderful life we lead. Sometimes due to depression and other mental health issues, our brains have a hard time conceptualizing what is real and what is framed in our mind in such a way that the bright appears dull. So how can we all work on reminding ourselves of the positives in our lives, rather than the negatives?

Happiness comes in waves. It'll find you again.

Like the preschool song goes, if you’re happy and you know it clap your hands. Well, clap your hands regardless, we don’t always have to feel happy to know how blessed our lives are. We have pictures on our phone to prove it to us. We have our children hugging us at night to prove it to us. We have our partner making us our favorite meal to prove it to us. We have the ability to breathe in air and live to see another day to prove it to us.

If you want to be happy, be.
-Leo Tolstoy

Choose to be happy, choose to find the positive rather than the negative, to see the glass as filled, not half filled or half empty, but full of coffee and it is delicious, thank you very much! Choose to see the sun in the sky and the ability to access therapy via an app and support via the internet as small miracles. Choose to live everyday as it might be your last and to wring every bit of goodness out of it, not because you have to, but because you can.

When it rains, look for rainbows.
When it's dark, look for stars.

This past year has been rough. Thank you all for your steadfast support and love. We hope we have been a ray of sunshine in your lives as you have been in ours. From all of us at Team Supportgroups, thank you.

Wishing you all the best- Team SG
