Hello Summertime!

This is the time of year where my quiet, nice life gets overtaken by my children, the kiddos that took up residence in my body and used to love nothing more than a few toys and cartoons are now bored out of their skulls. Now they plug into their devices until another camp is scheduled or another activity is planned. Basically I am their credit card, chauffeur and chef.

This is also that lovely time of year where we squish our bodies into bathing suits and hope for the best. We decry our lovely bodies for not being thin enough, lean enough, tall enough, our bellies are too big, our cleavage is too saggy and on and on. Your body is beach body ready, slap on that suit and head to the beach, TA DA!

Additionally, we are asked to sit for HOURS through graduation ceremonies for those whom we love, when really, lets be honest, they are the most boring form of torture out there. Let’s do away with jail time for petty crimes, as punishment, criminals should have to attend a certain number of graduations, be given a name to clap for and be made to take notes on the commencement speech. At the end of their torture, they are free to go and sin no more!

“It was June, and the world smelled of roses. The sunshine was like powdered gold over the grassy hillside.”
-Maud Hart Lovelace, Betsy-Tacy and Tib

Our lovely lives, because really, for most of us, our lives are really lovely, seem old and drab because we compare them to an unrealistic viewpoint, SOCIAL MEDIA. Just remember for every gorgeous picture on your feed, there are hundreds that weren’t posted. Your sweaty pool adventure is just as fantastic as the one that other mom posted looking sweat free and amazing. She just has really long arms, an Insta Husband or assistant that knows the perfect filter, angle and touch up needed to make her story sparkle. Perfection is a picture, it isn’t a way of life for even the most elite among us.

“Some of the best memories are made in flip flops.” -Kellie Elmore
This Summer, aim to enjoy things more, and worry less. Easier said than done to be sure, but when your kids ask to go to the beach or pool, say yes and instead of hiding your body under shorts and a t-shirt, get in the water too. Will everyone be kind, no, there will be people who will judge you based on how you look, but really, who cares?! Your kids already think you are amazing, so be that strong adult influence in their life who clearly doesn’t (appear) to give two *rhymes with ducks.”

“In the summer, we write life’s summary with the slow waves of love flowing over the sandy beach. The slow breeze and the warm sun write our memories.” -Debasish Mridha

Some Summer Goals you may want to incorporate:

Exercise in the early morning or later at night when it is cooler.
*Swimming is a wonderful form of exercise and bonus, you are in the water!
*Go on a bike ride or hike in a park you haven’t previously discovered.

Take a trip to the nearest beach, there is something about being by the ocean and listening to the waves crash that speaks to your very soul.

Make medical and other appointments that have been languishing in your head, set a time to call and make them.

Aim to add more fresh vegetables and fruit to your diet and meals, this is the best time to east fresh, the prices drop and the variety is endless!

Use a hat, sunscreen and SPF clothing when you are outside, EVERY single day. Sunburns should be avoided at all costs, they hurt and they put you at a higher rate for skin cancer later on.

“This summer night deep down under the stars was all the things you would ever feel or see or hear in your life, drowning you all at once.”
-Ray Bradbury, Dandelion Wine

As always, thank you for allowing us to be a part of your lives. You are amazing and we could not be prouder of you all! -Team SG
