The Good Part

You know that song that is playing everywhere online, “The Good Part” by AJR? Yes it is a real song that goes beyond the words, “so can we skip to the good part?”. But the reason it resonates with everyone is because we all want to skip the hard and uncomfortable parts of life and get to the good stuff, it is like eating dessert first and skipping dinner and the healthy stuff entirely. The hard stuff, aka real life, is often difficult to navigate and it is normal to want to skip to the good parts.

For something we need to survive, we hear the word “BREATHE” a lot. Any and all medical procedures will come with the instructions to either breathe or to breathe and hold in your breath. Especially when the doctor, nurse or medical personnel are hurting you and you are thinking that you could pull off a swift kick and blame it on the pain, they remind you to breathe because it will “relax you.” Not in this lifetime and not unless they knock you out and if they tell you to “just breathe” again you are definitely going to scream!

Feeling Blah

There is a pretty pervasive lie that almost everyone believes and that lie is that we should aim for happiness all the time. It sounds amazing and there are many people who make a lot of money on this lie, there are books, articles, videos, and a ton of influencers on social media that make it their “brand.” The reality is, being happy all the time is exhausting. That is not to say we are advocating to be sad, depressed, anxious and overwhelmed all the time either, but there is a time and place to feel hard things.

Modern Family

Family, ah family. When you close your eyes and think of family, is your picture one of bliss, sorrow, grief, anger, humor...? A few blogs ago we were talking about bodies and we said something along the lines of, you have the body you were born with and the body you want and that example is exactly the same for families, you have the family you were born into and the family you wish you were born into. Family is weird, there we have said it. We were raised reading books about perfect families and ever so quirky families on Television.

Let it Go

If you are anything like us and your brain has turned a bit mushy with parenthood and or age and your memory seems to have faded to the point where you are like, “you know the thing where you eat food, no not the kitchen, the thing where you sit and you put your plate on it, A TABLE, that is the word!” It would be far less embarrassing if you were bilingual, but no, your brain just can’t seem to hold onto the important things you need to remember.
