i want to stop my binge eating before it turns very out of control. I've been gaining weight which is making me upset which makes me want to just turn towards food. Anyone have any helpful tips to distract myself when i feel "false hungry"?

Take it slowly. Maybe track your calories but do not set it too low cause it will make you binge even more. Also what helped me a lot was eating slowly and mindfully. I take small bites and also drink a liquid (usually water) with my meal. I know that it is not advised, but it does help me feel full at the right time so I can easily get off the kitchen table when I've had enough and not too much. Also listen to your cravings. For me, I like sweets so no matter how savory the meal is, I will have something sweet after it like a couple of dates or a slightly sweet drink. That makes me feel comforted and full and again, I can get off the kitchen table easily without wanting to eat more.

Water does really help. I like it ice cold. When it's not that temperature, I'm in trouble. Do some deep breathing. The urge to binge is a very panicked reaction, if you can breath and wait the 10-15 minutes you need, it will work. Best of luck. Keep writing!
