The two big tricks I was taught over and over were, look at the situation as logically as you can and realize you're not really in any danger.

The second, was to use the five senses technique to help ground yourself in the moment. Find 5 things you can see, four things you can hear, three things you can touch, two things you can smell, and one you can taste.

If it doesn't help the first time, keep going through it. It brings your mind to the present and helps shy away from the million 'what ifs' that our stupid brains like to churn up. Best of luck to you.
