So every year my job sends me on a fancy work trip to downto

So every year my job sends me on a fancy work trip to downtown Chicago. They put us up in fancy hotels all over downtown and shuttle us—along with 50k other guests—to the convention center. This year, my hotel is actually connected to the convention center, which would be a good thing...if I were physically able to walk the massive convention center. This morning, instead of trying the walk from the hotel through the center, I stepped outside and hailed a cab to take me around to my entrance. Getting in, the first thing I did was apologize for not being able to make what amounts to a 6 block walk.

I'm ashamed that I can't take a walk like that. I am over weight, but my back is a mess and walking more that a few yards causes serious pain. In years past, I have walked this convention center without the least bit of trouble. Why did I feel a need to apologize today?

I can't tell you why you felt the need to apologize today, but I CAN tell you that you do NOT need to apologize. It's okay to wish your body was different, and there may be some things you can do for it, but at the end of the day, it is your body. You are the only one who lives in it and understands it. 6 blocks is a long or even impossible walk for a **** load of people (myself included), that doesn't make us less of anything. You have to take care of yourself and only you know what you can and can't handle. Okay?
