Hi. I am brand new to this site. Just looking for some support. I know I am not living up to my fullest potential and disappoint myself and others especially after a night of drinking. I guess you could say I'm a binge drinker. Only drink on weekends with friends but lately it's been getting out of control. To the point I black out and don't remember things on either how I behaved or the bad things that are happening to me. I haven't always been this way but am taking ativan for anxiety so obviously that's had a factor in things. I feel so alone and don't know what to do. I don't feel like AA has ever been that helpful. I am told by family and friends that I don't need to quit, just stick to beer. Ugh it's taking a major toll...

Thanks Irish. Found 1 meeting place but without a car I have no way of getting there, it's about an hours way away. You see, I am on formal probation ( dui, hit and run last year) and have to attend self help groups per court order and AA is not for me ( for various reasons). I wonder if being on this site constitutes as one. Any ideas? Guess my PO would know but reluctant to call.

Welcome to SG! This group is about alcohol which is a huge topic. It encompasses all aspects of the subject from wine making to avoiding the DT's. Many people that post here are trying to recover from alcohol abuse. There are many different ways to go about it. AA is not for everyone, my first higher power was a tree. That program has always worked for me. I took Ativan for along time. The alcohol was affecting my central nervous system and the Ativan took the edge off. I got addicted to it. On my second venture in treatment, I was down off of alcohol in 5 days. The Ativan? I shook for a solid month.

The alcohol group extends a warm welcome to you and encourages you to do some reading and lots of posting. In the spirit of Bill W., many of us have found that by reaching out to support others, we actually help ourselves.

At the bottom of the page is a "FAQ" button, It will help you navigate the site. For other questions, simply post them and a member will answer as soon as possible.

We all know how hard it is to reach out for help, we are pleased to have you join in with us. The coffee is always on, make yourself at home. See you on the threads!

Yeah, minor tranquilizers like Ativan become a danger when mixed with alcohol. Did you really give AA a fair shot? I know for myself I kept relapsing but always knew I hadn't really taken all their advise (or most of it either). Some people find other paths to staying sober but almost invariably help others as part of the recovery process. Maybe you could try volunteer work...
