I have an exciting history filled with a sample-platter of issues. An alcoholic father here, a controlled upbringing over there, throw in a little abuse, self injury, and sexual assault, top it off with controlling relationships and some good ol' fashioned drug and alcohol abuse. That's me. I believe the lack of love from my father in my childhood started a downward spiral for me where I never felt I would ever be good enough to be loved. I mean, if my own father didn't love me, I must be a bad person, right? So I did whatever I needed to do to fit in, be accepted, feel that sense of love. My first onset of anorexia was when I was 13, but it went away and came back in full force at 25. I thought if I just got thin enough, it would be enough for me to be happy. But happiness never came, and I realized I was killing myself. Two years later here I am, alive and going strong in recovery. It's hard work, but I'm showing up for it.
