Getting ready to start ABVD
Has anyone been on this regimen? If so, can you please help me with what I might experience and suggestions as to what might help with side effects? Thank you
I had stage 4 hodgkin's lymphoma and I just finished abvd two months ago. Im 25. I really regret not getting a port because my veins were terrible. I would switch arms every time and for two weeks my arm was so sore it would keep me up at night. The drugs were also very painful when they were injected. Towards the end of my treatment I finally had to do a pic line because they were unable to put the medicine in my veins because of allergic reactions. So I defiantly suggest getting a port. I'd say try to stay active to when I wasn't busy doing something I'd get a little depressed about everything. Have a plan for transitioning to normal life after chemo too it's a bit of a shock to go back to normal life. Right now my side effects are minimal. I have some fatigue and neuropathy. I hope this helps with anyone who's going threw abvd. I'm in remission and my pet scan shows no signs of tumors so everything will work out I'm sure!!
Also my hair started falling out after the second treatment I cut it to a pixie cut so it wouldn't be so dramatic seeing the hair fall out. I loved that pixie cut it was so cute! When my hair got really thin I just shaved it off. Then my hair started growing back about a month before I finished treatment. The good thing about having the hair fall out is that my body hair grew back very slowly so I barley ever had to shave!! I loved that and miss it I was upset when my hair grew back cause then I have to shave my legs all the time lol:).
Hello Chrissy's Mom and Chrissy,
I was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma Stage 4B. It took a year before my MD found out what was wrong with me. I started ABVD and Neulasta shots In March of this year. I had 6 cycles which means 2 treatment a month. I finished in August and my PET scan is clear. I have three children the oldest is 12 and the youngest is 9, in the beginning I needed help with the kids and dinner. I would get tried quick, my husband helped and gradually I was able to take over again...I still got tried but learned to sit down when I needed to. I never had any symptoms as far as getting sick and everyone is different. I hope your daughter is doing well and not to worry I am 43 and made it, still scared and I never think that feeling will go away. She will do well just have a positive attitude, and believe me it's hard to sometimes but you have to for the kids.
