Son with autism and skitzoaffective AND bi-polar??? Yikes!!
I have a 19 year old son, diagnosed with autism when he was 8. His is mild, he did not talk till 5, but now he reads fluently, but still can't form proper sentences when he writes and often he goes on his own track talking "at" people.
Recently, he threatened suicide and burning the house down. We took him for an evaluation. He was in the hospital for 21 days. They swithched his meds.
Before this he had a diagnosis of skitzoid personality besides autism, but not it is skitoeffective. He still is paranoid about his meds, the doctors and sometimes us.
I wondered how common this is. Does anyone know?
I am having a hard time dealing. They also said he has manic depression.
What can I do? Sometimes he won't take his meds.
Maybe, you should ask his doctor if talking to a therapist will be a good idea. Also, the therapist can guide you on how to help your son. Wishing you health and happiness. God bless you.
He has been seeing a therapist for a year at ARC but usually my husband goes with him. I think next time I will. Good idea. Thanks for your support. It is hard for me to figure out what its the autism and what isn't. Not that it really matters but it does as far as meds go, so this is a good topic for the therapist.
