I know what you are saying. I was in the process of losing weight so I would run about 5 to 6 times a week. For a while it became an obsession but I had to tell myself that it is okay if I skip a few days because I would also change the way I ate.

Do you feel awful mentally or physically?

IS your excercise getting in the way of your work, your day-to-day routines? If it is, then there night be a problem.

I excercise 6 days a week and on the 7th day I do some sort of light activity. I do it because I need it to focus. I thought I had a problem before as well but what I also learned is that when you excercise, your body releases endorphins which are the natural " feel good chemicals" that are relased when you are happy, etc; same effect as drugs or alcohol. What's nice about excercise though as opposed to drugs or alcohol is that excercise ( limited amounts) is good for you. When excercise gets in the way of your normal daily routine... then there is a problem.

You say you have recently gone on a health kick and most of your friends still smoke? Have you ever thought that maybe the reason you don't hang out with your friends anymore is because they are choosing a life that you don't want to live anymore? IF they are truly your friends, they will support you in whatever you do. Have you ever thought about asking them to come with you when you work out?

Good for you that you have adopted a helathy lifestyle... it is a tough transition but you can do it!!!
