A Week Into the Journey

Well, I'm onto Day 8 without a cigarette and so far, it's definitely had its ups and downs. The biggest positive change that I've noticed so far is in my breathing. I had gotten to the point where I was getting winded doing the most minor of things like reading a story to my daughter and tying my shoes. Part of that was smoking and part of that is also my weight.

I signed my family up at the YMCA yesterday. I had that urge to feel like "okay, I signed up" and leave but something was different this time. This time, I told myself, "You are already here and you are wearing athletic shoes, go do something." So, I checked my daughter in at the child care room and walked a mile and lifted some weights. I spent about an hour on myself and the biggest thing that I took notice of; I could breathe! I wasn't the lumbering, hunched-over guy that was huffing and puffing around the center that I was the last time I attended the Y. I really enjoyed myself and stopped before I overdid it and burned myself out. Plus, I didn't crave a cigarette the entire time.

Last night was a different story. For some reason, the cravings came on super hard. It's almost like my body was saying "you rewarded yourself earlier, now reward me with some poison". I fought through it but noticed that controlling my appetite through this is going to be difficult.

For all that have sent me positive comments through facebook, you have no idea how much that helps me get through this. I hope everyone just doesn't get tired of me rattling off about it a lot until I'm further along. Getting the feedback has been key. Thanks again, and I'll update this soon.
