Finding out it was cancer

I walked in one day to see my Mom and over heard her making an appointment for a biopsy. Needless to say she wasn't expecting me to be there from the expression on her face when she looked up and saw me standing there. She told me I wasn't supposed to hear that. After hurting her knee a bit ago and still having problems with that the Dr had talked her into doing a vien study. During that study they found a large knot.
Dr B is a good friend of hers and he did the biopsy. He said there were more than just one, he took the largest one out which was about he size of a golf ball. That is was not looking as good as we hoped.
Somehow we all got stage 1 stuck in our heads and was looking on the bright sun shiny side. So when they came back with stage 2 possible stage 4, we were completely blown away. After the pet scan it is in both legs, lower abdomen and in her thyroid. Yet again I walked in her house when she was telling someone on the phone. I had to walk outside because I couldnt handle it. I stood in the side yard and the tears just started streaming down my cheeks. She walked outside and told me I didnt have to hide from her to cry. I want so much to be strong for her right now.

mommasgirl--
I realize this is your mom and not a friend, but it's a common refrain among people with cancer, that you 'find out who your friends are' when you're diagnosed with cancer. the bottom line is that the diagnosis scares everyone, but it doesn't have to. I notice this post is several weeks old, so I hope you've come around and realized that you can be there for your mom and that everything is going better.
