Hello I'm a 28yr old single mom with two beautiful girls. My oldest daughter who is 7 was diagnoised with diabetes at the age 2. I never thought in a million years that I would be given my child shots and checking her sugar every day. Well I just want to reach out to others to show my daughter that she is not alone. As she is getting older more things hurt her feeling and makes her sad. I wish I can take all her pain away.

Hi ShaAriel, As a mom myself, I can certainly understand your feelings. Whatever our children feel, we feel also and maybe at times even more so. You daughter is so lucky to have you in her life. She has alot to deal with at such a young age. Has she ever seen a counselor? If not, then maybe a counselor could be of help to her also.

I know how your daughter feels. I am 18 and have had diabetes for all my life. I found freedom with the insulin pump, it allowed me to things easier and have more fun because I was not constantly giving myself shots. Also, the pump gives me better control of my diabetes so I do not have to test my blood sugar as often as I used to. I used to not care and I thought I wanted to die rather than to deal with this, but then my friend who alsp has diabetes almost died because he didn't take care of himself and this opened my eyes, it made me care about myself and made me want to take control of my diabetes. The most important thing is to control diabetes and to not let it control you. I am a competitive athlete and will be playing sports in college next year and I have done this while controling my diabetes, your daughter should focus on simething she loves. I did that along with my friend's experience helped me gain control of my life and my diabetes.
