My Road to Recovery
I am so excited to start living a sober life. I have reached rock bottom and I am at the very worst stage in my life. I lost my ex-wife and started a new relationship with someone new that eventually also failed. And on top of all that I had twins with this new relationship. She just left me 2 days ago and took my boys back to her country in Nicaragua. I am 26 years old unemployed, living with my aunt, in debt and close to losing my car. I have no license to drive, I have multiple cases pending in court and I have to turn myself in for 40 days in Ventura County Jail for a 2nd DUI case. All thanks to Alcohol. But you know what? I feel good despite whats going on. I have faith that everything is going to be allright. This time I am not just sitting on my ass waitng for the cure to occur on its own. Now I am putting action into my recovery and it feels freaken great to be sober. Even though this is my second day sober, I am so glad I am taking this decision one day at a time. TODAY I feel great for not drinking. I miss the mother of my twins which I love so dearly and I miss my twin boys. But just for today I will not let my emotions overcome my mind and body. I am learning how to deal with emotions without drinking. Please GOD help me. I need you.
Thank you so much for your kind words. I went to a meeting yesterday and going to one today. I am shooting for the 90 meetings in 90 days. I already have a sponsor so I believe I have the most important tools for right now. My sponsor has been sober for 6 years so I better listen to what he has to say. Thanks again.
Hi nuevavida, Glad to hear you plan to make 90 in 90 and also have a sponsor. Sounds like you are off to a great start. Remember HALT - don't get too Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired. Always keep your sobriety first above all else. Keep taking it a day at a time - sometimes breaking that down into minutes and seconds if you have to. If you are ok with eating sweets, it was suggesting to me to have some type of candy on hand to eat just in case I got a craving. When we stop drinking, our bodies can miss the sugar that is in the alcohol and cause a craving. Sweets can help with that if you are ok to have them. Drink lots of water and get rest. Remember the slogans - first things first, keep it simple, easy does it but do it, think think think, live and let live and one day at a time. Keep coming and sharing and let us know how you are doing.

Hi nuevavida, Glad to hear you have 2 days! Way to go! I am sorry about the things that have happened to you. But first things first is taking care of you. Make sure to get lots of phone numbers at the AA meetings. Listen for the likenesses not the differences. Have you gotten a sponsor? If not, then I suggest to get a sponsor to help you work through the steps. Keep going to the meetings and taking it one day at a time. Keep coming back and sharing with us. We are here for you. ((((hugs))))
